Earlier this week, veteran safety Tyrann Mathieu met with the New Orleans Saints. Though he reportedly had a productive meeting, he remains a free agent at this time.
If the Saints want to add Mathieu to their roster for the 2022 season, they may have to ramp up their pursuit. According to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, the Philadelphia Eagles have shown interest in the Honey Badger.
“Hearing the Eagles are interested in Tyrann Mathieu,” Underhill tweeted on Thursday. “Saints will have competition if they want him.”
This report lines up with what NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo said on Wednesday.
“Seems to have had a good visit with the Saints yesterday,” Garafolo said. “There’s a couple of teams that have remained in communication. One of them is the Philadelphia Eagles. And I know there’s been talk of a visit but nothing has been set up to this point between Tyrann Mathieu and the Eagles. So let’s see how long Tyrann Mathieu carries this out.”

The current starting safeties for the Eagles are Anthony Harris and Marcus Epps. Mathieu would certainly present an upgrade at the position.
While the Eagles and Saints appear to be the top suitors for Mathieu, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said Mathieu’s market is heating up.
Perhaps another team will emerge in the Honey Badger sweepstakes.
