After seeing how the crowd embraced Justin Fields at Soldier Field last Saturday, it’s safe to say the Chicago Bears’ fan base wants to see him start sooner than later.
Despite all the hype surrounding Fields this offseason, Bears quarterback Andy Dalton hasn’t allowed it to affect his game or relationship with the team. When asked how he’s handling this quarterback situation, Dalton had a very mature response.
“You can’t focus on that. If you focus on that, it’s going to beat you down,” Dalton said. “I know who I am, I know who I was created to be, I know where my identity lies.
“Do I want the fans behind me and this team? Yes. Do I want them behind Justin? Absolutely, I do. But that’s not my focus. I can’t focus on all that right now. Like I’ve said before, Justin is going to have his time and Justin is going to have a great career. But right now, it’s my time, so my focus is on being the best player I can be for this team.”

Following the Bears’ preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins, head coach Matt Nagy reaffirmed that Dalton will start Week 1 of the regular season.
Since we’re still a few weeks away from the start of the regular season, it’s possible the Bears change their plans and name Fields the starter. However, the recent groin injury for Fields may prevent him from potentially winning the starting job this month.
The Bears’ second preseason game is set for this Saturday against the Buffalo Bills.
