Alabama has been killing it in the transfer portal, but the Crimson Tide doesn’t always add players. Sometimes they lose them to other schools.
Former Alabama running back Camar Wheaton, who entered the portal earlier this year, announced his commitment to SMU this afternoon.
Wheaton is a Garland, Texas native, so he’ll have the opportunity to continue his college career closer to home.

The No. 3 running back nationally and No. 6 player in Texas in the 2021 class, Wheaton picked Alabama from a list of over two dozen offers.
“Big-play threat on every touch and is among the nation’s top 2021 running back prospects with long-term early-round NFL Draft ceiling,” 247Sports National Analyst Gabe Brooks wrote in his scouting report on Wheaton from high school.
Wheaton did not appear in any games as a freshman with the Tide after suffering a knee injury that left him unable to practice.
