Adrian Martinez Reveals His Message For Nebraska Fans

August 30, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Adrian Martinez lifts his helmet in the air for Nebraska after a win during the 2018 college football season.

Adrian Martinez and the Nebraska Cornhuskers got off to a rough start in their 2021 season with a 30-22 loss to Illinois.

Many believed this was the year that the former four-star recruit pulled things together, but this past Saturday, it looked like more of the same from the senior QB.

Despite completing 16/32 passes for 232 yards, one passing touchdown and a massive 75-yard touchdown run, a late-game scoop-and-score fumble (the 16th lost fumble of his career) sealed the Huskers’ fate.

Understandably, the Nebraska fanbase is frustrated with their program and its quarterback.

Martinez shared a message to Cornhuskers fans on Monday afternoon.

“I owe the guys better and the coaches better,” he said, per multiple reporters. “… Stick with us. We’re going to play our tails off…We’re giving it everything we’ve got… There’s a lot of investment on our end.”

Adrian Martinez’s message to fans ahead of Fordham:

“Stick with us. We’re going to play our tails off.”

A pretty heartfelt delivery from Adrian Martinez when asked what message he wants to convey to Nebraska fans who lost some faith after the opener: “We’re giving it everything we’ve got… There’s a lot of investment on our end.”

Each of these messages have become all too familiar for Nebraska fans throughout the Scott Frost coaching era. Since Frost joined the program as an up-and-coming coach back in 2018, the Huskers have notched a disappointing 12-21 record. Through that time, the team has become notorious for their self-inflicted errors — errors that were certainly present in Saturday’s opening-game loss.

In addition to Martinez’s fumble, Nebraska started off the game with an embarrassing special teams mistake. Kick returner Cam Taylor-Britt fielded a punt while running backwards on his own one-yard line before getting downed in the endzone for a safety. The Huskers also missed an extra point after their first TD of the game.

Martinez now has 36 career turnovers as Nebraska’s QB. If he wants to restore the fanbase’s faith in him, he’ll have to significantly tighten up his care with the football.

Nebraska will look to bounce back in a non-conference matchup with Fordham this coming Saturday.
