It’s official – a No. 15 seed will be playing in the Sweet 16 next week.
Saint Peter’s, a 15 seed in the East Region, has done it again. After beating No. 2 Kentucky on Thursday night, the Peacocks kept their Cinderella run alive in an upset of No. 7 Murray State.
Saint Peter’s beat the Racers 70-60 on Saturday night. In doing so, the small school from Jersey City has advanced to the Sweet 16. It’s the third time in tournament history a 15 seed has reached the second weekend.
Naturally, Saturday night’s shocking tournament upset has basketball fans talking:
“The kids from Saint Peter’s will never have to pump their own gas again,” Kyle Koster said.

“Saint Peter’s is the first team from New Jersey in the Sweet 16 since 2000. That team? Seton Hall. Starting PG on that team? Saint Peter’s coach Shaheen Holloway,” said Adam Silverstein.

“Saint Peter’s is one of the stories of the year in sports. I can’t believe Shaheen Holloway is bringing this team into the second weekend of the tournament. Players in tears. Holloway pulling it all off with a sheepish grin. Downright magical,” Matt Norlander tweeted.

Will Saint Peter’s keep its magical run alive next week in the Sweet 16? To do so, the Peacocks will either have to get past No. 3 Purdue or No. 6 Texas.
