3 Teams That Could Target NFL Legend After “Winner Take All” Season Finale

January 4, 2026 by Last Word On Pro Football

After the “do-or-die” NFL regular season finale, quarterback Aaron Rodgers is set to contemplate his playing future either way if the Pittsburgh Steelers make it to the playoffs or not. According to reports, Rodgers has “options” on the table, which could suggest what his future looks like and if it’s without the Steelers. After having one of the most unsuccessful tenures in New York, the former Packer legend went on to revitalize his career, where he has the chance to top it off with a Super Bowl crown led by head coach Mike Tomlin. However, if the Steelers lose to the Ravens, then their season is over, and that could likely motivate the veteran to continue playing.

Before the 2025 regular season started, Aaron Rodgers teased that this was his final year in the league. This could all change since the veteran was contemplating his next destination after his release from the Jets this past offseason. It took all the way until training camp to decide whether or not he wanted to join the Steelers.

3 Teams That Could Target NFL Legend Aaron Rodgers After “Winner Take All” Season Finale

If you’ve been a football fan long enough, then you’d know that Rodgers always changes his mind. The fact that he’s pondering the options he has, Rodgers could be in a uniform. Originally selected in the 2005 NFL Draft, the former California product is one of the oldest active players in the league. Rodgers already has won a ring, and nothing left to prove after recording 3,028 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns while helping the Steelers to a 9-7 record thus far. Never say never, so here are three teams that could sign him to one more run.

Next Possible Destinations

Minnesota Vikings

Last offseason, Rodgers was heavily linked to the Minnesota Vikings. However, the team is committed to current starter JJ McCarthy, and they could reconsider given the season he had in 2025. It was an opportunity for the Vikings in the Super Bowl conversation, which they should take a look at, since McCarthy is still developing. This should buy McCarthy some time to make his mark on this starting offense, as the team could look to sign a backup quarterback either way.

If the Vikings find a way to retain defensive coordinator Brian Flores, the Vikings should get an adequate starter like Rodgers to jumpstart this offense. Star wide receiver Justin Jefferson has been frustrated with the team, and this move could change the culture temporarily.

Las Vegas Raiders

Meanwhile, the Tom Brady influence didn’t pan out the way he wanted. The Raiders had themselves another disastrous season with head coach Pete Carroll already on the hot seat. Rodgers won’t single-handedly save the soul of this offense, but it would give Carroll one more run in him as the coach to lead things in the right direction. Geno Smith is too inconsistent, so while they will likely draft Fernando Mendoza, they should sign Rodgers as a last-minute signing if he becomes available.

New Orleans Saints

After the season that Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler had, it’s hard to determine who is the long-term starter. While the Saints decipher that situation, the team might have to consider signing a veteran quarterback to wake this team up. It’s hard to imagine that Rodgers would join a rebuilding team, but he has a chance in the NFC again if that’s what he wants.
