Look at this top 5
NFL redrafts, of course, don’t mean much.
It’s all a look at history and, often, what could have been. But they can be fun sometimes as well and a recent 2014 redraft conducted by Pro Football Focus was certainly fun and, wow, did it have a Raiders’ influence.
Check out the top five:
- Houston Texas, Aaron Donald:
The Texans took defensive end Jadeveon Clowney and Donald went No. 13 to the Rams.
2. St. Louis Rams, Mike Evans:
The Rams took offensive lineman Greg Robinson. Evans went to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the No. 7.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars, Derek Carr.
The Jaguars took quarterback Blake Bortles and Carr in the second round (No. 36) to the Raiders.
4. Cleveland Browns, Khalil Mack.
The Browns took wide receiver Sammy Watkins and the Raiders took Mack at No. 5.
5. Oakland Raiders, Davante Adams.
Adams went in the second round (No. 53) to the Green Bay Packers.
Thoughts:
That’s quite the Raiders influence, isn’t it?. All of these redraft picks make some sense, but I would have taken Mack higher than Carr. Yes, quarterbacks are a always sought after and Carr started in the league for 11 seasons. But Mack has been a better player, so I would have had him go to the Jaguars. Cleveland would have been fine with Carr at No. 4 and he should have been the pick over Johnny Manziel at No. 22, in real life, anyway. The Adams-Raiders connection is jarring because of the recent history. but honestly, it’s a solid choice in a re-draft scenario.
