1 College Football Star Appears To Be Falling Down Draft Boards

April 2, 2022 by The Spun

Notre Dame football star safety Kyle Hamilton, a top 2022 NFL Draft prospect.

Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton is widely considered a top-five prospect in this year’s NFL draft pool. But according to ESPN draft analyst Matt Miller, his stock could be dropping as we approach the 2022 selection process.

Hamilton put together an “uneven” performance at his pro day earlier this offseason. According to scouts present at the workout, the Fighting Irish star logged 40 times in the low 4.7-second range.

This compounded by a season-ending knee injury in 2021 could see Hamilton slide down draft boards.

“It’s possible he falls all the way into the second half of Round 1. Now, it takes only one team to change that, but the consensus around the league is that a drop is expected,” Miller reports.

Though his draft stock may being dropping in the eyes of NFL teams around the league, Miller still has Hamilton as his No. 3 overall prospect in the 2022 class.

“I’ve loved since his freshman season. He’s a great leader and playmaker, but he was already fighting a battle at a non-premium position in the eyes of NFL evaluators,” Miller added.

Former NFL GM/current ESPN analyst Mike Tannebaum is worried about Hamilton’s “underwhelming” 40-yard dash times, but also has the Notre Dame safety projected as his No. 3 pick off the board.

“Hamilton has rare versatility and traits for a safety, and he’d be an instant-impact player on the back end,” he wrote in his mock draft breakdown.
