Winnipeg Jets Dealing With Multiple Injuries and Ailments

September 30, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

The start of the 2025-26 NHL season is right around the corner. Unfortunately for the Winnipeg Jets, they are dealing with various multiple injuries and ailments.

Defenceman Dylan Samberg will miss the next six-eight weeks after breaking his risk. Adding salt to the wound, goaltender Connor Hellebuyck left Monday’s practice.

Causes for the Missing Jets

Samberg was injured during the second period of Saturday’s game against the Calgary Flames. The 26 year old will likely return sometime in November. However, that will not be determined until the Jets get an idea of how Sambeg’s rehab is going.

According to head coach Scott Arniel, the reason Hellebuyck left practice was due to him “not feeling right.” Arniel did not specify if Hellebuyck’s absence was due to illness or injury. Furthermore, when asked if Hellebuyck would be available for tomorrow’s game against the Minnesota Wild, Arniel said the team would have to wait and see.

Implications

Obviously, this is not the news the Jets want with only a week left in the preseason. With Samberg out until at least November, someone will need to step up to fill his absence.

As for Hellebuyck, this may not be a long-term absence. It is possible the reigning-Hart Trophy winner simply felt sick and needed to get off the ice. If that is the case, he will likely not miss too much time.

Between the two, the Jets definitely cannot afford to go without Hellebuyck. For a team coming off a President’s Trophy and hoping to contend for a Stanley Cup, they cannot afford to be without their star goaltender.
