Alexander Holtz Signs New Deal with Vegas Golden Knights

Holtz has played for the New Jersey Devils and the Golden Knights for part of four years in the NHL. Last season, the 23-year-old totaled four goals and eight assists for 12 points in 53 games. He averaged 11 minutes, 35 seconds of ice time in the 2024-25 regular season. Holtz had a Corsi for of 49.4 and a relative Corsi of -1.5.

The Stockholm, Sweden native has 23 goals and 23 assists for 46 points in 163 career games. New Jersey originally drafted Holtz in the first round, seventh overall, of the 2020 NHL Draft.

He was a restricted free agent after the 2024-25 season. However, Holtz and Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon were unable to reach and agreement before the start of training camp. Holtz had signed a professional tryout agreement on September 18 so he could still work out with the team.

What It Means

Holtz signs this deal with a sort of “prove it” contract. This gives Holtz a chance to show his worth in the next couple of seasons.

Holtz did have a 16-goal season with the Devils in the 2023-24 campaign. However, he was unable to replicate that in his first season with the Golden Knights.

He now has a chance to get more ice time and maybe cash in when he becomes eligible for his next contract. Holtz can sign a contract on July 1, 2026 when he enters the last year of his current deal.
