Vegas Captain Is Week-to-Week Following Injury

October 21, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

Monday is not a fun day to begin with. This particular Monday brings bad news for the Vegas Golden Knights. The Golden Knights will be without Mark Stone for the time being.

Vegas Captain Week-to-Week

Bruce Cassidy says Mark Stone is week to week, and won’t travel with the team this week.

Stone injured his wrist during the third period of the Golden Knights’ win over the Calgary Flames. The team captain was off to a hot start this season, just two points behind Jack Eichel for the NHL lead. Eight of those points have come on the power play.

Injury Bug Bites Stone Again

Stone is an asset to the Golden Knights, but staying on the ice has been a struggle in his career. His 66 games played in last year was his most since the 2019-20 season.

For the Golden Knights, they have their eyes set on winning another Stanley Cup. As long as Stone is healthy for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Golden Knights will be happy. However, getting to the playoffs without their captain will present a challenge, but not one the team is unfamiliar with.

NO LTIR Help

Unlike previous seasons, there is no long-term injured reserve option for the Vegas. Of course, it is a little too early to be thinking about LTIR for an injury labeled as “week-to-week.” Still, it is worth mentioning that should it come to it, that option will not be available to the Golden Knights this season.

However, it is early to be thinking about LTIR. The Golden Knights could have their captain back by November. Time will tell. Until then, the team will need players to step up to help fill the void in Stone’s absence. Brandon Saad is someone who could see an increased role, but other players could be asked to step up for the time being.
