Teams Gauge Interest in Joonas Korpisalo Trade
Rumour: Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek said that teams are looking at the Jackets’ goalie as a possible trade piece.
This was revealed during Saturday night’s Headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada. The Finnish goalie has recovered the form he had before undergoing hip surgery.
Korpisalo might be 10-10-3 with a 3.14 goals-against-average and a .912 save percentage. However, he has been doing well analytically. According to Clear Sight Analytics, the 28-year-old is 1.9 saves above expected. This puts him in the same company as Igor Shesterkin, Ilya Sorokin and Jake Oettinger. All of this work is being done despite having a bad team in front of him.

A Joonas Korpisalo Trade Could Be Inevitable
One other advantage for Korpisalo is that he’s on an expiring contract that makes him an unrestricted free agent. The Finnish goalie also comes cheap at a $1.3 million price tag. This means a team up against the cap that could use goalie depth may make a run at him.
Korpisalo has been great since early December and would be a solid depth add for a contender. This NHL rumour could become a reality. The Blue Jackets would be smart to look into a trade. Columbus is going to sell off some pieces and expects Korpisalo to be one of those to be moved.
