UNLV Rebels vs. Sam Houston Bearkats: TV channel, time, what to know

August 26, 2025 by 8 News Now

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Rebels will face off against the Sam Houston Bearkats in Texas this Friday.

On Saturday, UNLV bested the Idaho State Bengals at Allegiant Stadium with a score of 38 to 31 in the earliest game in Rebel history.

The Friday, Aug. 29, game in Huntsville, Texas, will be the first time UNLV has played Sam Houston, UNLV Athletics said. This is the first of two matchups against first-time opponents this season, with UNLV going up against the Miami RedHawks on Sept. 20.

How to watch UNLV vs. Sam Houston on TV

Fans can watch Friday evening’s game between the Rebels and the Bearkats live on CBS Sports Network.

  • Kickoff: 6:30 p.m. PT
  • Channel: CBS Sports Network

Tickets for UNLV vs. Sam Houston

Fans who wish to attend Friday’s game, which will be played in Texas, can get tickets for as low as $35 on UNLVtickets.net, the university’s official ticketing platform.

Weather Forecast For UNLV Game Day

There will be scattered clouds with a possibility of isolated thunderstorms during the afternoon in Huntsville, Texas, on Friday, according to The Weather Channel.

Anyone who plans to attend should be aware that the field at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium is not a covered field. Temperatures for the day will range from a high of 90 degrees to a low of 73 degrees. Sunset will be at 7:48 p.m.

What to watch for: UNLV vs. Sam Houston

Quarterbacks: How will the Rebels continue to use their two quarterbacks, #10 Anthony Colandrea, who transferred from the University of Virginia, and #1 Alex Orji, who transferred from the University of Michigan? Both were effective in the Rebels’ opening win over Idaho State.

Defense, Defense, Defense: The Rebels’ defense came up with timely interceptions, but gave up too many yards and points to Idaho State. 8 News Now Sports Reporter Ron Futrell said they may need to tighten up their defense moving forward.

First On-The-Road Game: This will be the first time that head coach Dan Mullen has taken a UNLV football game on the road, and this experience at Sam Houston could be much different than playing in the “friendly confines” of Allegiant Stadium.
