After last year’s NCAA Tournament run to the Sweet 16, Nevada basketball entered the year with all kinds of hype as a mid-major darling and potential Final Four candidate.
That may still be the case, but the No. 6 Wolf Pack are undefeated no more.
Eric Musselman’s team lost at New Mexico tonight, and it was extremely ugly.
UNM throttled Nevada 85-58 at home, a result that will surely send Nevada plummeting in the rankings this week.
Star Caleb Martin, who averages 19 points per game for the Wolf Pack, was held to just eight points on 2-of-14 from the field. Jordan Caroline was the only member of the team in double-digits.
New Mexico had a solid offensive performance, and held Nevada to 33-percent from the field and an abysmal 4-of-22 from three-point range.
New Mexico fans rushed the court after the big win over Nevada basketball.
This isn’t a particularly strong Lobos team either, adding to the shock. This one gave their fans huge reason to celebrate.
They’re partying in the Pit.

New Mexico was 6-6 against Division-I competition before tonight, including four losses at home. They lost to Penn and North Texas and by 35 to New Mexico State.
And they just handed Nevada its first loss of the season. By 27 points.

Nevada was a 14.5-point favorite entering the game, per OddsShark.
With the loss, just three undefeated Division I teams remain in college hoops: Michigan, Virginia, and Houston.
